Finding the Root Cause of Your Ailment

An important thing that we do when a client comes in for a HijamaHerbs session, is that we figure out what is the root cause of the pain (back pain, headaches, etc) or chronic ailment (heart palpitation, diabetes, arthritis, etc). Most people, who don’t have an understanding of root cause analysis, will quickly say, “Oh, I lifted my computer 5 years ago and that’s why I have this back pain” or “I slept up on the wrong side last week and that caused this neck pain.”

Actually, the pain or chronic ailment you have goes much deeper. In fact, it may go beyond the physical level. It may be coming from an emotional, mental or social level. To get lasting relief, not only do you need to address the physical aspect of your pain or ailment, but you need to also address the emotional side. And sometimes you may need to address the sihr/jinn level too.

This cartoon clip clearly illustrates the importance of finding out the root cause of your pain or ailment. The people are frantically mopping up the water on the floor, hoping to stop the water from flooding the floor. They will have to keep on mopping the floor endlessly as they are only managing the symptoms. This can be likened to the medical model which gives you drugs that you have to take for the rest of your life, but never really addressing the root cause of your ailment. This approach will bring the pain or ailment again and again. With true health practitioners who want to see you get well, they will spend the time to figure out the root cause. It this scenario, instead of mopping the floor, they will get an understanding that the root cause of water on the floor is because of the faucet being turned on, so they will walk over to the faucet to turn it off. Which in turn results in bringing lasting relief and healing for you.

Root Cause From The Emotional Side
In most cases of pain or ailment, only the physical symptoms are looked into. If the person has frozen shoulders, the medical guy or health practitioner only checks the person’s shoulders, completely ignoring other aspects.

One key area to look for the root cause is the emotional side. Dr. Stephane Provencher, a chiropractic doctor has observed that up to 80% of his patient’s health issues are caused or influenced by unresolved emotional hurts.

The big question is what are unresolved emotional hurts and why do they have a physical impact and affects our health and well-being? Research seems to indicate that whenever we cannot or will not feel or accept a negative emotion, it will have an increased effect on our well-being.

This is especially true when we experience traumatic life experiences triggered by specific stress triggers like: the loss of a loved one, losing our job and financial security, a fight with a boss or partner, etc.  There is always an emotion (or several emotions) associated with that experience.

Dry, itchy, rough and flaky skin are symptoms of eczema. On the surface, it is seen by many people as a physical ailment. So people buy creams and lotions and put it on their skin. The truth is eczema has its root cause on the emotional side. The organ here is epidermis (outer part of skin). On an emotional context, it signifies the person is experiencing “loss of touch”. It means the person has lost the closeness and affection with a person (or persons) that is dear to them. Maybe the child was separated from his mother or a close neighbor moved to another place.

If we feel this emotion fully and let it go as we should, then there won’t be an energetic charge or unresolved emotional hurt present in our body. But many times we repress, hold back or don’t allow emotions to be felt and experienced.

If we are not able to fully experience and resolve an emotion in the present moment, then our unconscious mind and higher intelligence will place this unresolved emotion into a small bag and store it in our body (organ tissue).

Over time this unresolved energy will surface and be presented for resolution again and again. We may be surprised, shocked and wonder why this emotion pops up again and decide to push it back down. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of energy to hold the unresolved emotions down.

Self-healing happens naturally when we experience the unresolved emotion and at the same time stay conscious in the present moment. The emotion flows through our body, is finally released and no longer causes us problems. Remember, the process of repressing emotions can be deeply unconscious, bypassing our conscious mind.

The stronger and more intense we feel this unresolved emotional hurt the stronger the organ-mind-brain symptoms will be. The same is true if we are re-triggered into that emotion (like seeing a friend’s baby and being triggered into sadness and internal conflict of not having a child ourselves) that will start a chronic process with symptoms increasing over time.

When the root cause has been found, then effective treatment can be administered. This can include hijama, herbs and also emotional counseling to dissolve the negative emotions that has been repressed. Without clearing the “charged” emotions that has been lodged in your tissues, the physical pain such as back pain or migraine headaches will continue on and on. So its always a good idea to clear the physical symptoms and also the emotional aspects.

We all have unresolved emotions stored in our bodies. One easy test is to go back to a previous experience in the past. If we still feel the anger, upset, sadness or fear, then we haven’t resolved the energy yet. Once we’ve let go of the unresolved emotion, we’re still able to access the memory of that traumatic event, but the energetic charge that puts stress on our body has disappeared. We feel free and light without an unconscious need to feel the unresolved emotional hurt again and again.
