Healing Women’s Hormonal Imbalances

A hormonal imbalance occurs when there is too much estrogen compared to progesterone in a woman’s body, also referred to as estrogen dominance. In a normal cycle, estrogen and progesterone hormones work together to maintain a woman’s menstrual cycle, each playing an important role.

When hormone balances occur and estrogen levels become too high, it can lead to many problems with a woman’s reproductive cycle, from PMS symptoms to menstrual problems or irregular periods, to mood swings, abdominal weight gain, increased levels of stress hormones, uterine fibroids, and an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and breast cancer.

Bloating, fatigue, irritability, hair loss, palpitations, mood swings, problems with blood sugar, trouble concentrating, infertility -these are just a few symptoms of hormone imbalance. Having shorter or longer menstrual cycles, irregular periods, absence of periods for 3 months, excessive menstrual bleeding are also symptoms of hormonal imbalance. Menopause is another time for a normal hormonal shift in a woman’s life.

There are many causes for an estrogen-progesterone hormone imbalance. These include aging, stress, birth control pills, and lifestyle factors like diet and weight. The use of hormonal birth control and the perimenopause stage of life are probably the two biggest factors.

A hormone imbalance can sometimes be diagnosed as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression or anxiety disorder, restless legs syndrome, and digestive or bowel disorders. Hormonal imbalances can lead to a drastic decrease in quality of life and cause very real difficulties in a woman’s daily life, from mood problems to sleep problems, to menstrual cycle problems.

HijamaHerbs offer an effective and safe option for managing and resolving a hormone imbalance. It has a regulating effect on the body and can help to promote normal functioning of various systems, from hormone levels to sleep cycle, energy levels, moods, and digestion.

By looking at the various symptoms that are presenting, we can determine the areas of the body that are not functioning properly and treat the root cause of the problem. This almost always involves the liver not functioning properly as it plays a very important role in the regulation of emotions and of the menstrual cycle.

A healthy liver ensures you have strong mental focus and firm decision making skills in your career (whereas brain fog & frustration would be a sign of liver stagnation). An unobstructed, healthy liver meridian will also balance your hormone levels as they ebb and flow throughout your monthly cycle. When liver stagnation is present, your hormones will be off, you may experience PMS (and all the emotions that come with it), and you may also have cramps. This is because the body doesn’t have enough Qi (energy) and has to literally work harder (the contractions that create cramping) to produce a smooth flow of blood.

The liver is responsible for metabolism and emotions, and when the liver doesn’t function properly, it causes many problems. People with decreased liver function can feel several things, such as heat when raising the neck and head. This heat is a sign that the blood vessels are dilated, also indicated by redness on the neck and face, which can lead to high blood pressure.

That’s why it’s important to cleanse the liver every three to six months, depending on one’s symptoms. The liver is designed to detoxify the body. It also metabolizes female hormones. When the bloodstream contains too many toxins, the liver concentrates on eliminating them, which can lead to hormonal imbalance—a high level of estrogen and a low level of progesterone.

As the body regains healthy equilibrium and these causes are treated, the hormones begin to normalize and the symptoms will begin to lessen. Over time and with continued treatments, the body’s imbalance should resolve.

The diet is very important for balancing hormones. A healthful diet rich in fresh vegetables and fruit and whole grains helps with many issues. Increasing fiber can help to cleanse the body of high levels of estrogen as well. In particular, organic dandelion leaves can help cleanse the liver and balance female hormones. Used fresh in salads or soups, sipped in teas or taken by capsule, dandelion helps to cleanse the liver and balance female hormones.

The herb chaste berry is known to aid in progesterone balance by stimulating the release of hormones from the pituitary gland. Other herbs used to aid hormonal imbalance include black cohosh, red clover, wild yam and rehemma. Dong Quai (also known as women’s ginseng) is a phytoestrogen-rich root that aids in hormone imbalance. These herbs are found in HIjamaHerbs Women’s Hormonals herbal blend and are provided to women with imbalanced hormones.

It is also important to reduce the consumption of sugar, salt, fat and processed foods. Coffee, too, should be monitored. Heavy consumption of coffee can increase the level of metyloxanthines, which can cause or aggravate water retention, bloating, and breast swelling and tenderness.

HijamaHerbs sessions stimulates the nervous system through releasing the right hormones into the bloodstream.
