One of our customers wrote it to us recently telling about her experience with Women’s Hormonals – a blend of herbs we offer to resolve women’s health issues, specifically dealing with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), perimenopause and menopause.
Here’s what the woman said.
“I have been suffering with excessive bleeding due to perimenopause for 10 years. My doctor told me that I have fibroids, and she scheduled me for a surgery. I was getting nervous about the surgery, and looked around for a more natural solution to my problem. A close friend told me about Women’s Hormonals from HijamaHerbs and I decided to give it a try. After taking the herbs for a month, my excessive bleeding settled down and normalized. Since then I never had that problem again and I called my doctor to cancel the surgery. Even when I was going through my menopause, I found the herbs extremely beneficial. And now. in my post menopausal years, I don’t suffer from usual symptoms that many women suffer from. These herbs have really balanced my hormones and helped me to lead a stable, healthy and normal life without the cramps, bloating, excessive bleeding which came with the day-to-day stress in life. In today’s stress filled environment, every woman should take these herbs daily.”
Most women reach menopause in their early 50s. Menopause is defined as not getting your periods for a year. Perimenopause is the period lasting a decade or so before that when menstrual bleeding become erratic and many women experience hot flashes, depression, and other well-known symptoms associated with the end of the reproductive years.
New research shows that women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome (PMS) are likely to have a harder time later in life during the transition to menopause.
In a study published in Obstetrics and Gynecology, they found that PMS suffers were twice as likely to experience hot flashes and mood swings as they approached “the change” as women who did not have PMS.
If you find that you are suffering from very ‘typical’ PMS symptoms including heavy, painful periods, sore breasts, water retention, mood swings and so on, it’s likely that the hormone estrogen could be at the root of the problem – and this is what we call estrogen dominance.
Too much estrogen relative to progesterone throughout the typical monthly cycle can mean that when estrogen levels eventually drop off to give you your period, the ‘drop’ is much more substantial. It seems that this more drastic drop off, or fluctuation, is what’s likely to be giving rise to many of these nasty symptoms!
Unfortunately, it’s likely that it’s these groups of women, suffering from these sorts of symptoms, who are more at risk of having a more unpleasant menopause experience later on. We know that estrogen fluctuations are likely part of menopause anyway, so if you are suffering from estrogen dominance already, then the symptoms can become heightened.
The North American Menopause Society says, “We have known for some time that if a woman has bad PMS in her younger years this is a fairly good predictor of a bad perimenopause. During this period, estrogen levels are high some days and low others, and this is especially troubling for women who are sensitive.”
You can do a tremendous amount to avoid and relieve premenstrual and menopause symptoms. Combined with regular sessions of HijamaHerbs, the right herbs and spices can address both the symptoms of PMS and estrogen dominance.
A study published in the British Medical Journal involving 178 women with PMS found that the herb chasteberry significantly reduced PMS symptoms over three menstrual cycles. Women taking chasteberry had significant improvements in irritability, depression, headaches, and breast pain.
There have also been a few studies have shown that women treated with chasteberry extract reported less breast pain, supporting the theory that chasteberry suppresses the release of prolactin, a hormone involved in breast milk production that’s been linked to breast pain. It may also help with swelling, cramps, and food cravings.
Chasteberry basically works by nourishing the pituitary gland and helps lengthen the luteal phase. It lowers prolactin and raises progesterone. For some women, this alone will improve symptoms.
